One of the most anticipated attractions at the Corby Highland Gathering will be making a comeback this summer: Northamptonshire’s Strongest Man.
Taking place on Saturday, 11 July 2026 at Charter Field in Corby’s Old Village, the competition will see athletes from across the region go head-to-head in a series of demanding strength events, competing for the title of Northamptonshire’s Strongest Man 2026.
Competitors will compete across four categories, Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Open, with the winner of the Open category crowned both Northamptonshire’s Strongest Man 2026 and Corby Highland Gathering Champion 2026.
Athletes will take on six events designed to test strength, endurance, and resilience. These include the Big Dogs Wooden Log for Reps, Stone Shot Put, Shield Carry for Max Distance, Dinnie Stone Replica Handles, Car Deadlift for Reps, and a final test of determination in the Front Hold, where competitors must hold a mystery object in front of them for as long as possible.
Tom Place, organiser of the competition, said: “Northamptonshire’s Strongest Man 2026 is shaping up to be an incredible day, bringing together top strength athletes and a fantastic crowd for a real celebration of the sport.
“We’re especially grateful to Forest Gate for coming on board as our main sponsor. Their support is a huge part of making this event possible. We’re looking forward to putting on a great show for everyone involved and making this year the best yet.”
The competition is sponsored by Forest Gate Ford Corby.
Rachael Parker, Managing Director of Forest Gate Corby, said: “Forest Gate is proud to be sponsoring the Northamptonshire’s Strongest Man competition at the Corby Highland Gathering.
“This year’s competition promises an incredible display of raw strength and determination, with competitors taking on the ultimate challenge — deadlifting a car. It’s a true test of power, grit, and resilience, and we’re thrilled to be supporting an event that celebrates both athletic excellence and community spirit.
“As a local motor dealer, Forest Gate is passionate about backing events that bring people together and showcase strength in all its forms — and what better way than seeing a car lifted off the ground by some of the strongest athletes in the county?
“We wish all competitors the very best of luck and look forward to an unforgettable day at the Corby Highland Gathering.
“Come along, cheer them on, and witness strength like you’ve never seen before.”
The strongman contest forms part of the wider Corby Highland Gathering, a long-standing event celebrating the town’s deep Scottish heritage.
This year’s Corby Highland Gathering takes place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July 2026.
Across the weekend, visitors will also be able to enjoy a full programme of traditional Highland entertainment, including pipe band competitions, the prestigious All England Highland Dancing Championships, local demonstrations, and family activities. Sunday will also see the return of the popular World Porridge Eating Competition, before the event concludes with the traditional Massed Pipe Bands finale.
